The SJ9 is a lightweight technical jacket from Snugpak designed for those who work outdoors in changing conditions: shooters, hunters and professionals who need wind and moisture protection without sacrificing breathability. Packed down it fits into a space of just 36x20 cm and in size M weighs 1 000 g — figures that matter when every kilo in the pack has a cost.
The outer shell is made from 100% Paratex Micro nylon, a fine-filament technical nylon whose weave creates micro-gaps that allow water vapour to migrate outward, reducing moisture build-up against the skin. The material structure also acts as a wind barrier, which matters during extended periods in a hide or at altitude where convective cooling is the main problem. The jacket is rated at −10 °C comfort and −15 °C lower limit: useful figures for placing it in the right climatic range, keeping in mind that the actual result always depends on the layers underneath.
The trade-off to consider is the water-repellent treatment: the SJ9 sheds water droplets and light moisture, but it is not a waterproof jacket for sustained rain. Anyone expecting prolonged exposure to heavy rain will need to pair it with a dedicated outer shell. In return, breathability is noticeably better than that of a conventional waterproof membrane — a real advantage when physical activity alternates between hard effort and standing still. The front zip is moisture-resistant and the two-way slider allows the opening to be adjusted from the bottom, which is useful when seated in a shooting position or in a vehicle. Made in Great Britain.
