Helikon-Tex U.S. Model Poncho — Taiga Green

The Helikon-Tex U.S. Model Poncho is a single-layer rain garment in rip-stop polyester, designed for people moving in the field who cannot afford to carry unnecessary weight. Spread out it measures 210x145 cm, wide enough to cover a medium pack while walking; folded down it fits into a 14x22 cm stuff sack that slides into any side pocket.

The fabric is treated to shed water and dries quickly, but the accurate description is water-resistant, not waterproof: in heavy, prolonged rain moisture can work through the seams, even taped ones. Anyone expecting extended exposure in demanding conditions should treat it as a fast emergency layer, not a bivouac solution. For short outings, sudden showers or as a backup piece in the pack, the protection-to-bulk ratio is very favourable.

Press studs and metal eyelets along the edges allow the formation of basic sleeves or the joining of two ponchos, producing a shelter surface large enough to cover a position or serve as an improvised tarp.
