The extra height is a deliberate trade-off: it makes backup iron sights usable and allows large-objective optics to clear the receiver, but it requires a higher cheek position on the stock compared to low rings. On replicas with an adjustable cheek riser this is straightforward to manage; on fixed-stock rifles it is worth checking the cheek weld before fully tightening the rings.

Compatibility with 25.4 mm tube optics covers the majority of compact scopes and many closed red dots that use this standard diameter, making them interchangeable on the same pair of rings without needing dedicated mounts for each optic.
