The Woodsman Anorak is a windproof jacket built for extended outdoor use, combining two technically distinct fabrics chosen for their individual roles: DuraCanvas® on the front and Stormstretch® on the back. The result is a garment that balances mechanical durability with freedom of movement, designed for those who spend hours in woodland, on a hide, or moving across demanding terrain.
The choice of DuraCanvas® — a fabric made from 55% polyester, 23% cotton, 19% nylon and 3% elastane — for the front panel is deliberate: it is the area most exposed to branches, rocks and sparks at a bivouac. It delivers the mechanical resistance where it is actually needed, while the Stormstretch® back panel follows every movement and keeps the back breathing during harder outings. Weight comes in at around 800 grams depending on size, a reasonable trade-off for a garment that does not compromise on robustness.
The side zips, which open all the way up to the armpit, are what sets the Woodsman apart from a straightforward softshell: they allow excess heat to escape during climbs without removing the jacket, and more practically, they give direct access to a sidearm on the belt without having to lift the entire jacket. This is a real advantage for anyone carrying a service pistol or hunting handgun under outer clothing. The front kangaroo pocket integrates an internal organiser, useful for keeping maps, calls or small accessories separate without rummaging through a bag. All pocket zips are YKK®, reliable even with gloves on or in cold conditions. The hood and hem are adjustable via elasticated drawcords with stoppers, adaptable in seconds to changing weather. Worth noting: DuraCanvas® offers spark protection and solid tear resistance, but the jacket is not waterproof — it is water-repellent, meaning it handles light rain and dew, not prolonged downpours.
Key points
- The DuraCanvas® front panel resists branches and protects against sparks; the Stormstretch® back panel allows free movement and breathability: two materials with two distinct roles on the same garment.
- Side zips opening to the armpit allow ventilation or access to a sidearm without removing the jacket.
- The front kangaroo pocket with internal organiser keeps frequently used items separate without opening a pack.
- YKK® zips on all openings: they work with winter gloves on and hold up to repeated use in any season.
- Adjustable hood and hem via elasticated drawcords: quick to adapt to changing conditions without removing gloves.
- Water-repellent treatment suited to light rain and moisture: it does not replace a dedicated waterproof jacket in heavy rain.
