Helikon-Tex Woodsman Anorak Jacket

The Woodsman Anorak is a windproof jacket designed for extended outdoor use, built from a combination of two proprietary technical fabrics: DuraCanvas® on the front and Stormstretch® on the back. Weight is around 800 g depending on size, which places it in the category of field jackets that are robust yet still wearable during transitional seasons.

The material combination is the core of the design: the front panel in DuraCanvas® — a fabric made of 55% polyester, 23% cotton, 19% nylon and 3% elastane — provides abrasion resistance and protection from campfire sparks, useful when working near open fires or pushing through dense vegetation. The Stormstretch® back trades that toughness for breathability and freedom of movement: in practice, this means that anyone carrying a pack or holding a rifle in position won't feel the same stiffness as the front panel. Those who need only abrasion resistance will find the back less protective; those who need only breathability will find the front less airy. This jacket is designed for mixed-use conditions, not for either extreme.

The two side zips, which open all the way to the armpit, solve the ventilation problem during periods of intense activity without removing the jacket, and also allow access to a belt holster without stripping off the rest of the kit. The hood adjusts with an elastic drawcord and cord locks; the hem is adjustable using the same system. The pockets — a front kangaroo pocket with an internal organiser and two side hand pockets — are all closed with YKK® zips, a choice that extends service life compared to generic-grade zippers under continuous use.
