The Wolfhound is an ultralight insulated hooded jacket designed for anyone who needs compressible warmth on hand at all times: hikers, hunters, and operators working in cold and variable environments. The Climashield® Apex™ insulation at 67 g/m² delivers a high heat-to-weight ratio and, unlike down, retains its thermal properties when wet.
The outer shell in WindPack® nylon blocks wind and provides light water resistance, enough to shed light rain and dry snow. It is not a waterproof fabric: it behaves as a water-repellent shell, intended to be worn over a base layer or under a waterproof shell in more demanding conditions. This is where the design trade-off comes in: VersaStretch® panels placed under the arms and at the cuffs improve freedom of movement and breathability in the warmest zones, but they introduce a material more permeable to air than the main nylon. The jacket breathes better during activity, but those panels insulate less in strong wind.
The pocket layout consists of a chest pocket, two lower hand-warmer pockets with fleece lining, and a zipped internal pocket for valuables. The hood is adjustable via elastic drawcord, as is the hem. The sleeve features a hook-and-loop panel for patches or identification. The jacket packs into its own internal pocket, keeping bulk to a minimum during transport.
Key points
- Climashield® Apex™ insulation at 67 g/m² retains warmth when wet, unlike goose down which loses effectiveness with moisture.
- The WindPack® nylon shell blocks wind and provides light water-repellent protection, without the breathability trade-offs of a full waterproof membrane.
- VersaStretch® panels in the movement zones increase articulation and active ventilation, well suited to activities with frequent temperature swings.
- Fleece-lined hand-warmer pockets add direct thermal comfort even with light gloves or damp hands.
- Packing into the internal pocket makes it easy to carry without taking up meaningful space in a pack.
- The hook-and-loop panel on the sleeve allows patches or identifiers to be attached without any modification to the jacket.
