Helikon-Tex Wolfhound Hooded Jacket

The Wolfhound is an ultralight insulated hooded jacket built for people who deal with cold while on the move: hikers, hunters and operators who cannot afford to carry unnecessary weight in their pack. Its core strength is the ratio between warmth and weight, achieved through 67 g/m² Climashield® Apex™ synthetic insulation distributed throughout the jacket.

Climashield® Apex™ retains its insulating properties when wet, unlike down which loses effectiveness as soon as it gets damp. This makes it suitable for variable conditions where light rain or sweat from exertion are unavoidable. The outer shell in WindPack® nylon blocks wind and offers enough water resistance for brief showers, but it is not a waterproof membrane: in sustained rain it needs to be paired with a dedicated outer shell. This is precisely the layering logic in which the Wolfhound performs best, as a warm and packable mid-layer under a hard shell.

The VersaStretch® fabric panels positioned under the arms and at the cuffs address the classic compromise of insulated jackets: a flat, compact layer restricts movement, but the stretch inserts in those areas restore a full range of motion without breaking the thermal barrier. The hood has an adjustable elastic hem and the hem at the bottom is adjustable with a drawcord, so the jacket can be fitted both over a base layer and over a bulkier mid-layer.
