Helikon-Tex Trooper MK2 StormStretch Jacket

The Trooper MK2 is a second-generation softshell jacket designed for those who need lightweight wind and moisture protection as an outer layer, or a stretchy shell over an insulating mid-layer in cold weather. The proprietary StormStretch® fabric combines the flexibility of a stretch material with the mechanical durability demanded by active use, and is available in five sizes.

The cut runs slightly roomier than the first generation: the difference is most noticeable when wearing a vest or a chest rig underneath, where freedom of movement across the upper torso and shoulders becomes genuinely useful. The stretch fabric moves with the body without pushing against underlying padding, reducing fatigue during extended sessions. Mesh underarm vents allow heat to escape during high-output phases without having to open the zip, but the absence of a waterproof membrane means the jacket is water-resistant, not waterproof: it is built to handle light rain and moisture, not to replace a rain jacket in severe conditions.

The hand pockets are positioned at the centre of the front panel rather than on the sides: when wearing a pack with a padded hip belt, this placement makes a real difference, as the pockets remain accessible without having to loosen or reposition the straps. The pockets are wide enough to fit gloved hands and include internal compartments for organising small items. The shoulder pockets feature external Velcro panels for ID patches and internally offer space for small objects. Inside the jacket there is a valuables pocket. The hood is integrated into the collar and adjusts via rear Velcro and elastic drawcords with cord locks; the cuffs close with Velcro straps; the hem is cinched with an elastic drawcord. The main closure is a two-way YKK zip with a chin and beard guard.
