NITE IZE

The Nite Ize Figure 9 Carabiner is an aluminium rope tensioner for cordage from 2 to 5 mm in diameter that lets you tension, secure and anchor without tying knots. The set includes 2 tensioners with locking carabiner and 2 cords, Small size: dimensions 33.5x68.6x7.7 mm, weight 13 g each.

The system works by routing the cord through the shaped slots in the body: the geometry holds the load without any knots, and release is as simple as lifting the cord off the exit profile. The correct threading directions are laser-engraved on the body, removing any risk of routing the cord the wrong way. With a maximum load rating of 22.5 kg the tensioner covers the majority of field applications — tarps, camouflage nets, rapid camp setup systems — where speed of deployment and breakdown matters as much as holding strength.

The trade-off worth knowing concerns the locking carabiner: it adds security as a fixed anchor point, but makes it slightly less immediate to unclip compared to non-locking models when working with gloves or under load.
