Vector Optics

The VictOptics SOI 4-12x40 AO is a variable riflescope with 4 to 12 magnification and a 40 mm objective lens, designed for medium- to long-range shooting and hunting. The 6061-T6 aluminium body with a 30 mm main tube houses a VNM-1 MIL reticle on the second focal plane, with red and green illumination at 5 brightness levels powered by a CR2032 battery.

The parallax adjustment — from approximately 9 metres to infinity — allows the user to eliminate parallax error at actual shooting distances, which is essential as magnification increases. At 12x, uncorrected parallax error translates directly into a shift of the point of impact proportional to the eye's movement relative to the optical axis; the AO turret on the side of the body resolves the issue without removing the hands from the rifle. The 100 mm eye relief keeps the eyepiece at a safe distance from the brow even with calibres that produce significant recoil.

The VNM-1 MIL reticle on the second focal plane maintains constant apparent size across the magnification range: the metric MIL subtension values are accurate only at maximum power, which is the standard compromise of this configuration. Shooters who use the reticle purely as an aiming reference without ballistic calculations are unaffected; those working with range estimation or field corrections should do so at 12x. The linear field of view at 100 m ranges from 8.3 m at 4x to 2.8 m at 12x, a useful span from rapid target acquisition to precise long-range identification. Windage and elevation adjustment exceed 20 MIL per axis, with clicks of 1/10 MIL. Water resistance is certified to IPX4; the body is nitrogen-purged to prevent internal fogging. Total weight is 580 g, length 353 mm.

Key features

  • Parallax adjustment from approximately 9 m to infinity eliminates aiming errors at any operational distance, not just at fixed preset ranges.
  • The 100 mm eye relief reduces the risk of brow contact during recoil, suitable for sporting and hunting calibres.
  • The VNM-1 MIL reticle with red and green illumination at 5 levels maintains reticle readability in varying light conditions.
  • Over 20 MIL of windage and elevation travel provide ample margin to compensate for long-range trajectories or to zero the scope on barrels with different mount heights.
  • Nitrogen purging prevents internal fogging caused by moisture, keeping the image clear in changing weather conditions.
  • The magnification throw lever included in the box allows switching from 4x to 12x with a single finger, without changing the grip on the rifle.

VictOptics SOI

Entry-level scopes from 1.5-5x to 4-12x, with adjustable objective versions.

SOI is VictOptics' entry-level series of variable riflescopes, ranging from the 1.5-5x20 to the 4-12x40. It covers the most common applications without requiring a significant investment.

The AO versions feature parallax adjustment on the objective lens, from a few metres to infinity: this is the difference between an optic usable only at its set zero distance and one that remains accurate across the entire range of use.
