The Gorge is a compact folding shovel designed for backcountry hiking, camping and outdoor activities where weight and bulk over a weekend genuinely matter. Folded it measures 235 mm; deployed it reaches an overall length of 419 mm. At 794 g it fits comfortably in a lightweight pack without compromising your daily range.
The glass-filled nylon handle absorbs impacts without flexing, while the rubber over-grip keeps purchase firm even with wet hands or gloves. There is a trade-off worth knowing: the same lightness that makes it easy to carry limits digging performance on tough ground — the manufacturer has addressed this by integrating a pick into the head, but on rock or dense roots this remains a field tool, not a replacement for a heavy-duty spade.
A push-button mechanism lets you open and lock the blade one-handed and without tools. When folded, the head exposes a striking face for hammering tent pegs into firm ground — a useful feature that saves carrying a separate mallet. The included nylon sheath protects the blade in transit and allows the shovel to be clipped to a belt or pack.
