Hard shell or soft shell

A hard shell protects against impacts and crushing, and models with a gasket seal keep out rain and dust: the right choice for travel, shipping and vehicle transport.

The trade-off is weight and bulk. For hand and shoulder carry, a soft case is more practical. The internal padding matters: foam cut in a cubed pattern conforms to the contents.
