The Wosport Kydex insert is a rigid U-profile shell that fits inside an open-top magazine pouch to add active retention for 5.56 mm magazines compatible with M4, M16, HK416, MK18, SCAR-L, TAVOR and Kel-Tec RDB platforms. With a front width of 65 mm and a base depth of 34 mm, it fits the standard geometry of these magazines without changing the external footprint of the pouch. Weight is 40 g.

An open-top pouch with a simple elastic band offers the fastest possible draw and reload, but it won't hold a magazine securely when moving on all fours, climbing an obstacle or working with your torso angled. The Kydex insert resolves this trade-off without sacrificing speed: the rigid walls wrap around the magazine body and hold it through friction and pressure, releasing it with a firm pull and no levers or buttons to operate. The result is retention that outperforms elastic alone, with comparable draw times, sitting halfway between a classic open-top pouch and a positive-locking system.

The insert attaches to the pouch via hook-and-loop: it anchors to the inner panel of the pouch, which must have a loop-fabric lining for installation. A drainage hole in the base prevents water and debris from pooling, keeping the insert functional after use in wet or dusty conditions.
