Helikon-Tex Woodsman Anorak

The Woodsman Anorak is a pullover-style jacket built for extended time in the field — whether that means hours in the woods, at a base camp, or holding a static position in any weather. The front body in DuraCanvas® and the rear panel in StormStretch® address two requirements that usually pull in opposite directions: mechanical durability up front, freedom of movement and breathability at the back.

The DuraCanvas® across the chest and shoulders provides a real barrier against branches, thorns, and sparks from a campfire. The fabric is dense enough to resist abrasion without fraying — something a lightweight softshell simply cannot offer. The trade-off is weight and stiffness: the front body is tougher but less elastic, so the range of motion at extreme angles comes from the StormStretch® rear panel, which gives in the right directions without resistance. The whole jacket is built to block wind, but the water-repellent finish — not waterproof — is worth keeping in mind: in heavy, sustained rain it will hold out less than a dedicated waterproof shell.

The anorak cut — no central front zip — eliminates thermal bridges and air infiltration points, but it means pulling the jacket on over your head. Anyone wearing ballistic protection or a tactical vest should check whether that is compatible with their setup. The two side zips that run up to the armpits serve a dual purpose: easier on and off, and active ventilation when output increases. The hood is adjustable with a structured peak that keeps your field of view clear even in strong crosswinds.
