The Windrunner is an ultralight windproof jacket from Helikon-Tex made in WindPack® nylon, designed for those who spend long hours outdoors and need an outer layer that doesn't get in the way. The selfpack feature lets it compress into its own inner pocket, becoming a compact bundle you can tuck into a pack or cargo pocket, ready to pull out the moment conditions change.
WindPack® Nylon is lightweight, quick-drying and treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish: it blocks wind and sheds light rain without acting as a fully waterproof barrier. This means the jacket breathes better than a conventional waterproof shell, but it is not a substitute for a dedicated membrane in heavy, sustained rain. Mesh underarm vents manage body heat during high-output movement, reducing internal moisture build-up. Elasticated cuffs, a hem drawcord and an adjustable hood close off cold-air entry points without needing additional velcro or buttons.
The Windrunner works on its own in transitional seasons worn over a base layer, or as an outer shell in a layering system paired with a fleece mid-layer or an Alpha jacket. Reinforced elbows protect the areas most prone to wear when working in a braced position or moving across abrasive surfaces. The mesh pocket on the sleeve gives quick access to flat items such as maps or documents without having to open the main body of the jacket.
Key features
- WindPack® Nylon with DWR finish repels splashes and light rain while maintaining better breathability than a traditional waterproof shell.
- The selfpack feature reduces the jacket to a pocketable bundle: no bulk in the pack when the weather improves.
- Mesh underarm vents release heat during high-effort phases, where a sealed jacket would create internal condensation.
- Elasticated cuffs, hem drawcord and adjustable hood seal out cold air without rigid components that wear over time.
- Reinforced elbows extend service life in the areas most exposed to abrasion.
- Compatible with a layering system: light enough not to burden the base layer on mild days, and easy to pair with a thermal mid-layer when the temperature drops.
