The Helikon-Tex US Level 2 thermal trousers are a full-length base layer designed for anyone operating or moving outdoors in cold conditions — from hunting and hiking to extended tactical use. The blended fabric, 95% polyester and 5% elastane, weighs 240 g and combines active moisture management with a close fit that stays out of the way.

The technical polyester wicks sweat away from the skin through evaporation, keeping the body drier and reducing the sensation of cold even during activities that alternate physical effort with rest. This behaviour differs from cotton, which absorbs moisture and holds it against the skin. The elastane content allows stretch in every direction without the panel pulling away or riding up the leg during walking, squatting or climbing.

The fly is built from folded fabric rather than a zip: this removes a rigid element from the groin area, which on a garment worn directly against the skin would cause discomfort over time — particularly when outer trousers are cinched down in an operational position. The trade-off is slower access compared to a traditional zip, which is of no practical consequence for a garment intended to be worn under other layers.
