The killflash for the Aim-O RD-1 red dot is a metal honeycomb sunshade that fits over the objective lens to eliminate solar reflections and protect the front lens. Weighing just 4 g, it has no effect on the weapon's balance or the red dot's behaviour.

The working principle is the honeycomb grid: the cells block oblique light coming from the sides, preventing sunlight from striking the front lens and generating a reflection visible at distance. The shooter gains optical discretion in full daylight without losing the field of view when acquiring a target. The trade-off to keep in mind is that the grid slightly reduces light transmission in low-light conditions: in poor lighting, the image may appear marginally darker than with the bare red dot.

The metal construction ensures the protection holds up against contact with vegetation, door frames or accidental impacts that would cause a plastic sunshade to fail. The mount is purpose-made for the RD-1 profile, so no adapters or modifications are needed.
