The Helikon-Tex MCDU DYNYCO trousers are tactical combat trousers made from DYNyCo fabric, a nylon-cotton blend that combines nylon's abrasion resistance with cotton's breathability. The cut is inspired by classic 1950s paratrooper trousers and is aimed at anyone who works or moves for extended periods in demanding environments and needs a garment that keeps up with the pace of use without giving up comfort.
The main DYNyCo body provides durability and reasonable moisture management, but the real strength lies in the combination with Versastretch® panels placed at the waist, crotch and rear of the knees — exactly where stiff fabric creates pressure and restricts movement. Versastretch® addresses this by adding multidirectional stretch without weakening the overall structure. The trade-off to keep in mind: DYNyCo is more abrasion-resistant than pure stretch fabrics, but dries more slowly than a 100% synthetic; anyone operating in very wet environments or crossing water regularly should factor this in.
The knees and seat are reinforced with 500D Cordura nylon — the areas where tactical trousers wear out first. The knee sections include a dedicated internal pocket for hard or semi-rigid inserts, so protection can be removed or added without changing the garment. The closure is dual: a weather-resistant zip and a classic metal button, with 40 mm belt loops. The pocket layout is extensive — reinforced-edge thigh pockets, cargo pockets accessed via flap zips, open rear pockets, front and rear pistol magazine pockets, and calf pockets — while mesh panels between compartments promote airflow and reduce heat build-up in enclosed areas.
Key points
- DYNyCo nylon-cotton fabric: more abrasion-resistant than plain cotton and holds its shape through repeated washing.
- Versastretch® panels at the waist, crotch and rear knees: freedom of movement in critical positions without compromising garment structure.
- 500D Cordura reinforcements at the knees and seat with internal pocket for removable inserts: durability in areas subject to prolonged contact with abrasive surfaces.
- 40 mm belt loops: compatible with standard tactical belts without adapters.
- Full pocket system with zip cargo pockets, pistol magazine pockets and calf pockets: accessible organisation across a range of operational positions.
- Mesh panels between pockets: active heat dissipation in enclosed areas.
