The hybrid construction pairs more rigid fabric in high-wear areas — knees and seat — with more flexible panels along the hips and inner thighs, where movement is greatest. This means the trousers hold up against abrasion from undergrowth or a shooting range floor without restricting your stride or gait. The knees feature internal pockets compatible with neoprene inserts (not included), a practical solution for anyone who works on hard ground in a kneeling position: the protection is added only when needed and removed when it isn't, without adding permanent bulk to the garment.

The fabric is not waterproof: it can be wax-treated to achieve partial water repellency, enough to shed dew or light rain, but not a substitute for waterproof overtrousers in prolonged rain. Anyone planning outings in severe weather should treat these as a mid-layer or plan to add an outer shell. On the other hand, the absence of a waterproof membrane keeps breathability at an acceptable level during active movement.
