Gerber

The Paraframe II is the largest knife in Gerber's Paraframe series: an open-frame folding pocket knife in stainless steel, with a 90 mm high-carbon steel blade and an overall open length of 210 mm. It weighs 122 g and folds to 120 mm, making it genuinely pocketable for everyday carry, camping and outdoor use.

The open frame is the defining design choice of this knife: it eliminates separate side-scale materials, reduces overall weight and keeps the entire blade accessible for cleaning without disassembly. The trade-off is that debris can reach the pivot more easily than with a closed handle, which makes quick maintenance necessary rather than optional in dusty or muddy conditions.

The frame lock uses the handle structure itself as the locking element: when the blade is open, a section of the frame snaps laterally under the tang and prevents accidental closure. The system is robust, straightforward and free of separate springs that could fail. The plain (fine edge) blade is optimised for clean cuts and can be sharpened on any flat stone, with no need for specialised equipment as with serrated blades.

Key points

  • Open stainless steel frame: reduces weight and simplifies maintenance, with no separate materials requiring individual cleaning.
  • 90 mm high-carbon steel plain-edge blade: cuts cleanly and resharpens easily with common tools.
  • Frame lock integrated into the handle: locks the blade without external springs, reducing potential mechanical failure points.
  • Weight 122 g, closed length 120 mm: pocket-sized proportions with a blade that is genuinely usable.
  • Pre-installed pocket clip: keeps the knife in a fixed, accessible position without taking up additional space.
