The dual-layer construction is what really matters here: the layer in contact with the head is soft and conforms to the shape of the skull, while the inner slow-return foam distributes pressure over time rather than concentrating it on contact points. The result is that the helmet does not press on the same areas after an hour of use. The outer surface of each pad is covered in breathable mesh to promote ventilation and manage moisture, while the inner flannel side increases grip against the shell and reduces movement during activity.
