An open-top pouch with elastic and velcro represents a deliberate trade-off: access is fast and can be done one-handed even with gloves on, and restowing gear is just as quick. The downside is that retention is lower than a rigid snap retention system: when running, during sudden movements or if the pouch takes a knock, the contents are less secure than with a mechanical closure. This type of closure is the right choice when access speed is the priority and the environment does not involve falls or rolling.

The Cordura pull tab allows you to open the closure even with thick winter or tactical gloves, without having to work buttons or levers. The dry velcro closure adds a layer of retention over the elastic alone, reducing the risk of accidental opening during movement while still keeping draw times fast.
