The magnetic closure is the core of the design: where a standard hook-and-loop or zip fastener would require both hands and produce noise, the magnet releases with thumb pressure alone. The trade-off is typical of this approach — retention is lower than a zip system and it does not seal against heavy rain — but for anyone who needs to pull out a binocular quickly during an observation window and stow it just as fast, the speed advantage clearly outweighs the limitation.
